Can we buy works of art, frame it, and then sell framed art to benefit?
If I buy works of famous art prints of, living artists and oversee the prints, can I sell framed prints for profit or is infringing copyright?
Assuming that the print was copied legally (ie, the art is in the public domain or the artist gets a license for the printer to print {print saying that three times fast}) and assuming that you legally acquired printing (ie you do not copy without a license), so-called "first sale" doctrine protects your resale a frame. Note, however, you generally can not mutilate, modify or transform the work of art to create a new work of art; this is referred to a "derivative work" and generally requires the consent of the copyright holder.
